BRAINTREE, Mass., Jan. 3, 2006—Nellie Mae, the student loan company based in Braintree, Mass., carried on its commitment to giving back to the towns and neighborhoods where employees live and work by supporting several community-based service organizations during the 2005–06 holiday season.
Nellie Mae continued its 10-year tradition of partnering with the Quincy Community Action Programs' Southwest Community Center in Quincy, Mass. for its annual food drive. Employees donated approximately six cartons full of canned or bottled goods, dried foods, and other non-perishable groceries. Nellie Mae personnel also donated 35 new or gently used coats and other outdoor winter clothing to the Saint Francis House shelter in Boston for distribution to needy families and individuals in the area. The items, the result of a winter coat drive held at Nellie Mae headquarters, were delivered to Saint Francis House, which offers lodging and rehabilitative services to the homeless. Nellie Mae also participated in the Dianne DeVanna Center for Abused Children annual toy and clothing drive. This year, Nellie Mae fulfilled 50 children's "wish" gifts in time for the holidays. For more information about the DeVanna Center, please visit http://devannacenter.org.
